Words

Words…
It was a journey of words
With words
We played hide and seek
Mother told fairy tales
We invoked the sky to rain
Our farms to yield us grain
Roamed the streets
Confident in the familiarity of the soil
Under our feet
But one day,
The word echoed
‘ Gold’
And the game of hide and seek
Turned into search of gold
We traversed mountains, rivers, and oceans
Scattering in all directions
Our words were rapidly changing
Old words were losing their meaning
Our words were giving away our identity
And we were desperate to change that
With words,
We lost
Our songs
Thoughts
Imagination
And above all
The touch of our own people
In this journey of Homo sapiens
A few words won
And plenty lost.
