Why did we drift apart?

We were once inseparable, bound by trust,
Now silence lingers, and memories rust.
A single doubt, a careless mistake—
Was that enough to let it break?
Time once wove us into a tale so bright,
Yet distance dimmed that guiding light.
We let the moments slip away,
Was that the price we had to pay?
Ego stood like a wall so high,
Neither would bend, neither would try.
Pride became our greatest chain,
Was it worth the loss, the pain?
Selfish needs took hold too tight,
Friendship blurred in greed’s dim light.
We counted gains, ignored the cost,
Was it then our bond got lost?
Envy crept where joy once grew,
A shadow cast on all we knew.
Your triumphs felt like wounds to me,
Did jealousy set us free?
We spoke in echoes, never clear,
Misunderstanding fed on fear.
A word unsaid, a wound unhealed,
Was that the fate our hearts had sealed?
Trust unraveled, thread by thread,
Truth was questioned, lies were spread.
I reached for you, but you turned away,
Did you ever want to stay?
And whispers whispered, sharp as knives,
Turning truth into twisted lies.
We let the noise define our fate,
Did we wake up far too late?
A hundred faults, yet love was blind,
But anger kept them all in mind.
We never fought to mend the seams,
Did we bury all our dreams?
But friendship stands above it all—
Above the scars, above the fall.
Yet somehow, somewhere, you changed…
