There I was in my pre-K learning the alphabet,
And here I am now, in my sweet sixteens
Acting like I’ve fully bloomed,
Just like other bog-standard teens.
There I was, sashaying around happily,
No trauma, no responsibilities and no dramas.
And here I am now in my moody sixteen,
Where living life is all about dilemma.
There I was, thinking I can be anything I want to be,
And here I am now, in my choosy sixteens,
Not knowing what’s God’s plan for me.
“Then” was magical, free and tantalizing; the less you knew the better.
“Now” is to grow up, be conscientious and it’s grueling; the more you know the better.
Then,I thought growing up is fun and amusing,
Little did I know it was going to be exhausting yet RIP-roaring.
Now, I wish I could be younger to prep my life,
To fortify myself from being on the very edge of a knife.
