Emerging Water Scarcity Problem in Urban Areas
Indiscriminate exploitation of underground water and disappearing natural water bodies , which is the result of rampant construction work in the guise of Infrastructure development, undermining resultant effect on availability of naturally stored water potential has led to scarcity of water in urban areas. Particularly in big cities and metros with ever increasing transitional population ,the repercussions are alarmingly high.
Proper planning for sustainable management of water resources and development of water preservation alternatives like rain harvesting techniques, development of artificial man made water bodies ,lakes and tanks , and induced artificial rains for arresting drifting clouds and dry spells in catchment areas will provide fruitful solution to the problem.
Educating common public to stop wastage of water and creating awareness among masses to preserve water through various daily practices for a common cause.
A slogan “Water is life , No Water no Life ” should be publicised in campaigns and programs.
At every level water societies ,water clubs and commitees should be formed with participation of local youth sans political overtones.
Water discussion forums should be organised with expert panels with exchange of views for arriving at consensus for solution of water related problems.
Private participation in water development should be encouraged
vis- a’- vis Govt programs.
We have to preserve the future of our next generation and our endevours should conform to our commitments.
