Embers Of Regret
The whispers we shared, like fireflies at night,
Danced in the darkness, a warm, flickering light.
Your laughter, a melody, sweet to my ears,
Now silence hangs heavy, choked back by my tears.
The space between us, a chasm I didn’t see,
Your words a whisper, lost in the storm raging in me.
Misunderstood gestures, a tangled web spun,
Love’s fragile thread, unraveled, undone.
Ego’s cruel whisper, a serpent in my ear,
Pride’s barbed wire fence, holding back what’s held so dear.
Your silence, a mirror reflecting my own pain,
A hurtful game, a love driven insane.
Brain games we played, a childish, bitter fight,
Hurling barbs of anger, dimming love’s gentle light.
The castle we built, with dreams and laughter’s sound,
Crumbled to dust, on a loveless battleground.
Embers of our passion, now just ashes remain,
A pyre of our foolishness, fueled by pride’s bitter reign.
Oh, to hold you close, one last time, feel your warmth again,
Run my fingers through your hair, erase this foolish pain.
Regret gnaws at my soul, a symphony of “what ifs”,
Silent suspicions, a storm within my own cliffs.
If only I’d spoken, laid my heart bare and true,
Maybe then this wreckage wouldn’t be all we accrue.
Where were your whispers, when doubt crept into my mind?
Did your heart not falter, did you leave love behind?
Pride, a heavy armor, did it shield you from the fight?
Could a tender touch have set our love aright?
Blame’s a barren field, where seeds of sorrow grow,
Let’s not water grudges, for the wounds they help to sow.
I played my part in the storm, with prideful, bitter words,
Our love’s a fragile flame, needing actions, not just birds.
A second chance, a leap of faith, can we rewrite this rhyme?
Or is this a lesson etched in time, a love lost before its prime?
Trust and open hearts, the key to a love unbound,
Without them, castles crumble, and silence echoes all around.
