A Girl Child
They all hoped that there is a boy inside,
Seeing me their hopes shattered and expectations died.
“It’s a girl”, out of remorse they uttered and cried,
Seemed as though my arrival had reduced their pride.
The family members were pale and sad,
Nobody was joyous not even my dad.
Just because my sister didn’t get a brother,
They all gathered to curse my mother.
Grabbing me in her arms, she held my tiny hand,
She knew this was the time ,she had to take my stand.
Confidently she told everyone in the crowd,
One day our princess will make everyone proud.
All her convincing efforts were futile,
The family shrugged their shoulder and turned hostile.
After seeing and hearing me cry,
She thought to give another try.
“Rather than regrets and all the fuss,
We should acknowledge God for the angel , he has gifted us.”
Everyone behaved as though they were stone hearted,
They would accept my mother if me and her parted.
All her emotions she decided to hide,
Boldly, she faced everyone and took my side.
Walking out of hospital, she gently waved,
It was then one more daughter was saved.
Today when I see her at this age,
I can imagine the difficulty at that stage.
Government today also has started schemes to protect every girl’s right,
I still cherish my mother’s contribution to save my might.
I thank her for making my life’s journey worthwhile,
It was solely due to her, I could cover that extra mile.
Just like boys, girls are also a boon,
They are really competent and have also reached the moon.
I also follow my virtues and curb all my vice,
And fearlessly bring pride in my mother’s eyes.
