Helen Keller

This story is about a personality who is disabled but differently able. Tuscumbia, Alabama in
United States of America, a girl was born in 1880. Her name was Helen Keller. When she became19 months old she became very ill, but when her illness went away, she was left blind and deaf. Suddenly Helen’s world turned silent and dark.
When she grew, she became upset. She couldn’t speak, couldn’t hear, and couldn’t see. And she often became angry because she couldn’t express her thoughts. Her family didn’t know what to do but one day when a young teacher named Anne Sullivan arrived at her home.
He took her hand in his hand and he started teaching her as he wrote words in her palm. In the beginning, she couldn’t understand but slowly, slowly she could understand his words. The first time she understood the word W-A-T-E-R, such as when the master took her hand and put it under running water. That time she felt she could feel something, then at that time she started laughing.
From that time Helen’s world opened up. And she started learning with the help of Braille, writing, and even speaking. And she left her disability behind. And Anne, her teacher, was always by her side. He taught hard and hard and after some time she became the first deaf-blind person to earn a college degree, graduating from Radcliffe College in 1904.
Helen always wanted to write books, give speeches, and inspire millions. She became the champion for blind people. And she travelled the world spreading her message of hope, courage, determination, and the rights of women.
