My Half Girlfriend

I see her smile; it lights my day.
She walks beside me, then walks away.
Not quite mine, yet always near,
She brings me joy; she brings me fear.

We talk for hours, then she is gone.
Like sunshine fading after dawn.
She holds my hand, but not my heart.
We’re close, but still a world apart.

She laughs at jokes I love to share.
And sometimes shows how much she cares.
But then she hides behind a wall.
Not ready yet to give her all.

I wish that she could truly see,
How much she really means to me.
Half a love, but still so true,
A piece of her feels like my glue.

So here I wait with hope and grace,
For her to choose our special place.
Until that day, I’ll just pretend.
She’s more than half; she’s my best friend.
